This novel is a work of pious Christian fiction written in the 1940s. The main character of the novel is a young woman, the daughter of prominent Christians in the city of Antioch, Syria, who seeks employment as an actress in the local theater. The actress is not particularly talented, but she is willing to support the policy of the Roman governor by holding plays mocking the rituals of the local Christians. For this, she is spurned by the local Christian community.

It is the story of a director, actress and playwright who are ordered to Antioch by Trajan Caesar to perform acts ridiculing Christianity. Once there, the director and playwright meet the Bishop of Antioch and his daughter who show them, through words and deeds, what Christianity is all about. The actress was raised a Christian in Antioch and is filled with hate for Christianity. By the end of the story, the three have discovered that they too are more aligned with the Christians than with Caesar.
