Dusty Springfield, original name Mary Isabel Catherine Bernadette O’Brien, (1939-1999), British vocalist who made her mark as a female hit maker and icon during the 1960s beat boom that resulted in the British Invasion.
 
Springfield, with her teased beehive hairdo and eyes heavily blackened with mascara, was a 1960's pop fashion icon. From 1964 and 1967, when she left Philips, 11 of her singles hit the American pop charts.
