Anson Davies Fitz Randolph (1820–1896) was born in Woodbridge, New Jersey. He began as an errand boy in the American Sunday School Union, and worked 21 there years. In 1851 he opened his own business at 669 Broadway. His specialty was religious books, pamphlets, sermons.
Dark brown with gilt spine and cover title, rear blind-stamped title and all edges red with brown endpapers. Original owner name at the front inside cover with a 1865 date. Publishing date not given and there is a lovely cursive inscription at the front endpaper. Heavily cracked binding with a water stain at the rear inside (little to the outside) with mildly damp-stained pages. The outer joint is split on the right side and there's a fray at the top of the spine and the corner tips (spine cloth neatly recased). Unpaginated. About 5-1/2 x 4. Rare Civil War era book in fair minus condition!
