PIG WAR ISLANDS by David Richardson 1971
PIG WAR ISLANDS: The San Juans of Northwest Washington. By David Richardson, Orcas Publishing Company, 1971.
Richardson has written the story of the 1859 clash between British and American forces over the ownership of the San Juan Islands, instigated by the shooting death of an errant British pig by an American settler.
The San Juan Islands lie 80 miles north of Seattle and the author recounts the entertaining story of their early history and the military encounter that changed their history forever. Richardson also provides detailed accounts of the major players in this international incident, and the aftermath of the "war" and its effects on the islands.
The book jacket painting is by Bill Holm. Holm is known for his expertise in Native Northwest Coastal Art.
Nice book. Jacket with tears, rubbing to top spine corner and some writing at the rear of jacket.
