The Cocktail Party by T.S. Eliot is one of his most famous works (a comedy). It is a morality play that deals with the failing marriage between Edward and Lavinia. The play is based on the Alcestis Legend by Euripides (in Greek mythology Alcestis sacrificed herself to save her husband).

 

Black cover with a gilt spine title. Secure binding with clean pages and light rubbing to the extremities. the jacket is price-clipped at the inside flap. Copyright page has 1950 date as well as [g 12 51] below. Original owner bookplate at the inside pastdown and brief 1952 Christmas inscription at the opposite free endpaper page. The jacket is lightly foxed with mild soil and a small piece of pate at the rear bottom fore edge. About 8-3/4 x 5-3/4 with 189 pages. Hardcover book with jacket.
