The Fountainhead is a 1943 novel by Russian-American author Ayn Rand. The novel centers on an uncompromising young architect named Howard Roark and his struggle against what Rand described as "second-handers"—those who attempt to live through others, placing others above themselves. The book became a worldwide success, bringing Rand fame and financial security. Rand sold the rights for a film version to Warner Bros. Ms. Rand's unique philosophy, objectivism, has gained a worldwide audience.
