The Leisure Hour was a British general-interest periodical of the Victorian era which ran weekly from 1852 to 1905. It was the most successful of several popular magazines published by the Religious Tract Society, which produced Christian literature for a wide audience. Each issue mixed multiple genres of fiction and factual stories, historical and topical.
Black spine & corner leather, and red spine swatch with gilt title, and violet boards. A moderately rubbed spine with some cracking at the edge. Secure binding with clean pages and foxing at the front/rear endpapers. Thick and heavy book, about 9-3/4 x 7 with 1100 pages. Fun book filled with facts, literature and science. Includes The Alabaster Box by Walter Besant (in several sections). Illustrated throughout. Scarce!
