Peter Arno made the series on the Whoops Sisters memorable in the New Yorker in the period 1925-1927. His humor (sometimes in collaboration with Philip Wylie) turned the cliche of the little old lady upside down. His hints at sex in the late 1920's were acceptable to the New Yorker's strict standards. They appeared almost weekly during their twenty-nine month run (April 17, 1926 through December 24, 1927.
